It is going to be difficult to a generic map between any ecommerce
standard and an ERP application due to all the various implementations
of any given standard. Most of the ERP applications have an API like
SAP's IDOC for mapping to/from the ERP to a standard. Since you are in
the chemical world you might look at the work the Chemical Industry Data
Exchange (www.cidx.org) has done. They are promoting XML and SAP does
have a new XML interface.

Hi
I'm trying to locate definitions of the data relations between SAP
(or other ERP systems) and EDIFACT (or X12, or other message
standards).
We have partners who are running many different ERP formats and
exchanging many different EDI-formats.
We have found definitions of the fields used in SAP-IDOC's however no
information on the relation between ERP system "formats" and EDI
messaging formats (obviously I am talking about functional
definitions rather than the actually message translations). In
addition, if anyone has information on other ERP output
formats/structures than that would be of great interest too for
future work.
This is primarily for the Chemical/Packaging Industries although any
help, pointers or information would be much appreaciated.
