RE: Mainframe to Unix conversion

Physical movement of data between the mainframe and Unix systems should be
the only major issue. Related to it is the ever present EBCDIC/ASCII
conversion issue. How these are resolved is highly dependent on your
network configuration and support management.

Subject: [EDI-L] Mainframe to Unix conversion
Some of our EDI source data originates on mainframe and then Gentran
mapping takes place on mainframe. Some source data is Unix-to-Unix. We
are looking at running the mapping/translating process only on our
Unix environment. Can anyone describe what issues I may run into when
trying to map/translate files on a Unix system (Gentran Server 5.3)
that originated on a mainframe system? Also what issues may arise
after pulling files from VAN then mapping/translating on Unix and then
sending back to mainframe?
