Jim,
The rate you describe below ($75-$100/hr) is below what the average rate is
today. That what the average was about a year ago but not now. That maybe the
rate the consultant companies are getting but twhat he consultant gets is not
that high. I know pleanty of EDI consultants with many years experience who
can't get that rate today. Even look at any job site or any email that flow into
this list. I haven't seen one with $75-$100 in many months. You can say that is
the average rate all you want but talk to any consultant here is looking for a
contract today and they can tell you the rate. Today that rate is high for most
states regardless of the persons experience.
wrote:Rates are going to be dependent on your location, the
skill set of the
consultant, the duration of the engagement, and on the organization supplying
the person. I know of EDI consultants with law degrees, PhDs, CPAs, MBAs, BAs,
and AAs. Some have 30 years experience and some have a single year. And they
can have extremely wide-ranging technical, business, managerial, and personal
skills. Do you want a star, a journeyman, or an apprentice? A trainer, a
programmer, an architect? Do you need EDI consulting or a temporary operations
person? Are you willing to engage a consultant directly or do you have to work
through preferred vendors? Preferred vendors may add up to $100 per hour to a
consultants hourly rate. Do you need someone for a day, a week or six months?

If you describe your requirements, someone may be able to provide an accurate
estimate. My recent experience has been that rates are currently ranging
nationwide from $75-150/hour.
