RE: Another beginner question from a Mercator novice

You have to manipulate the data flow for each customer using IF
functional maps, if they haveto be treated differently, otherwise there
is no need even to create different outbounds for different customers.
If the changes are not very much, the try to manipulate values in the
output fields itself, otherwise make different functional maps for each
customer

Subject: [EDI-L] Another beginner question from a Mercator novice
Got another question for everyone out there concerning Mercator. As
I've said before, I'm a Gentran guy, but the current contract I'm
working is with Mercator, specifically Mercator's mapping software.
I'm wondering what the easiest way is to map an inbound or outbound
transmission. Once you have your type tree from your database done,
can you create a generic outbound ASN map for version 4010, for
example, using the database type tree as your input card and the
generic ANSI 4010 856 type tree that comes with Mercator as your
output card. Then, for each customer you have to create an outbound
ASN for, you just modify that general map with any customer-specific
info, and save the changes under a different name. Is there a flaw in
my thinking here, or is this the easiest way to handle mapping? Any
feedback would be greatly appreciated.
