Do you have any idea which of the Sterling products use AS2 or any
particular version??

AS2 is the EDI Internet Integration Applicability Statement 2 protocol that
provides certificate-based encryption security and data compression.
Wal-Mart is in fact allowing it's vendors to send/receive EDI over the
Internet , so far they're using Commerce Suite from iSoft Corp.

Serling Commerce is one of the companies certified for AS2
interoperability, meaning their product would work with all translators. I
believe Drummond Group is conducting the certification. Maybe Rich can
respond. This could mark the death of VANs as we know it, since AS2 also
handles nonrepudiation. I'm all for VAN's making hundreds of millions of
dollars, so don't flame me. But I personally think the Internet can do a
better job, maybe we've finally found a job for the Internet.

What is the AS2 that I was told we would have to use?

Wal-mart is requiring the use of either Sterling's or IBM's VAN services as
a backup for EDIINT.  My understanding is that the VAN will be used in an
emergency only.

I remember reading that too.
