Exactly. Build a temporary, throw-away interface to import
into your system until you get your EDI infrastructure up
and running.
Like others have alluded to, EDI will take awhile to implement.
Even if you have a third party as the broker/portal your looking
at, depending on the urgency, a couple of months will invariably
elapse.
I'd concentrate first on getting the data into your system via SQL
or other low-level-of-abstraction means rather than leaping head
first into the deep end of the pool.
At least you are talking to the right group! I was in the exact
same situation as you and I'd given a body part to have access to
one or two of the experts in this SIG rather than what I wound up
doing (which was creating my own EDI translator).
