Why XML - This section is an introduction to the basic concepts of XML. Why all
the excitement about XML? What are the major differences between XML and HTML?
Between XML and EDI? What advantages does XML bring to B2B electronic commerce?
The Technical Mechanics of XML - This section shows how XML documents are
constructed. Additional topics include: how DTDs are used to provide "rules" for
an XML document, XML namespaces, an introduction to the new XML schemas and
style sheets, why schemas are such an improvement over DTDs and an introduction
to how XML parsers work. Hands-on student exercises help reinforce these
concepts.
Current XML Activity - This section will discuss an overview of current XML
activity by industry groups (RosettaNet, Utility Industry, etc.), commercial
firms (CommerceOne, Ariba, BizTalk) and standards bodies (ebXML, X12, etc.). It
will also include a discussion of how XML documents are enveloped and
transported using the ebXML framework.
XML's Potential Role in B2B Commerce - This will include examples of XML in B2B
applications. It will provide a look at how XML will impact EDI applications in
a company. It also provides a "getting started" road map.
