After my last post, isoft contacted me to see if they could be of any
assistance. It looks like there is a lot more functionality in the P2P agent
than I had thought. They are helping me look at better ways of determining
problems than using the log files, and encouraged me to call their help line
with any other issues I'm looking to solve.

I thought such "proactive" service warranted another post.

Good luck to all with AS2.

And advance warning for any disasters, too. I don't need it to predict
problems. What I'm thinking of is more along these lines:

* If the connection to Wal-Mart is down anywhere when we try to send, the AS2
software will log an error in a log file. But it won't email a user to say
there is a problem. The full-license versions of the AS2 products I've reviewed
have this capability - just not the scaled down version we got from isoft.

* The P2P agent renames the file upon sending. If a file already exists with
the same name it's trying to use, you get an error message. (Now I assure the
names are unique before placing in the out folder.)

Since we haven't been in production very long, I'm not sure what other errors
might occur. I would prefer not to rely on the user to check the log file,
because 99% of the time there won't be a problem, so 99% of users will quit
checking.

"pro-active notification of problems" appears to be like the manager in Dilbert
asking for a schedule of all unplanned system outages. Sandy what kind of
problems are you running into and what kind of notification are you looking for?

I'm just curious because I am using Isoft and in production with Walmart. Any
heads up is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

the "free" isoft peer-to-peer product. Their desire was to keep the costs as
low as possible initially, so the integration between isoft and TLW is manual.

problems. We are looking at the log files regularly to see if there are any
errors reported. I have a script in TLW that runs the Audit Raw EC function to
collect the incoming files (and a batch file to consolidate and rename them).
Outbound, it's Output Raw EC and more batch files. Since this is a rip-n-read
shop, this is sufficient.

by Inovis. That would just look like any other communication session to TLW.
