EDIFACT UCC-128

Subject: EDIFACT UCC-128
Good Morning,

We are going to start working with a companies from the Japan, Korea, and China
area's. I have a few questions about UN/EDIFACT-DESADV (856 - ANSI) messages.

Do they use any type of UCC-128 format?

I have noticed that the DESADV hierarchy's are not the same as the 856
hierarchy's. So far I have found only hierarchy's for Packages and Line Level
for the DESADV. I am wondering if the DESADV will have a hierarchy for
Shipments, Orders, and Sub-line Items.

From my investigation into the message so far, I have noticed the 856 has 2 true
header segments and the DESADV has 14 header segments. It appears that what I
would receive in the Shipment Hierarchy (856) level at the header level of a
DESADV.

Here is a little history: this is my first UN/EDIFACT DESADV Message. We are
dictating to our vendor what we want to see. I do not have any example data
which makes this quest very challenging, as you know. Any information you can
provide me about UN/EDIFACT experiences would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob Reed
