RE: How does UCCNet work

In case you were unaware UCCnet has a web site with info:
http://knowledgebase.uccnet.org/
A large part of UCCnet is data synchronization which involves more than
moving data.

Peter,
Luckily I just attended a NEECOM (New England E-Commerce Users Group)
conference where we had a 1 day training session on UCCnet, so I can
somewhat answer your questions. The description you just gave is very
close to what happens. However, you can't send an X12 832. UCCnet only
accepts XML documents. The connection is via AS2 or http connection.
The
other side is that not only do you have to subscribe to UCCnet but your
vendor/supplier also has to subscribe in order to be able to access your
information. Any time you make a change to an item, UCCnet
automatically
sends an update to any vendor/supplier that you previously sent that
item
to.
The training session that I had was very informative and had a lot of
useful information but we all kept coming back to the topic of "Why not
just send it direct to our vendor/supplier?", and "Why can't we send an
X12
document?" It's seems a little pricey to subscribe and then you also
have
to make the investment in either XML or a third party provider.
Hope that helps!

Can anyone give me a very short breakdown on how
UCCnet operates from a supplier's point of view? I get
the general idea, but UCCNet's pretty website is nice
and vague on the technical details of what you need to
send to them and how.
I'm looking for a description like:
"Firm connects to UCCNet via AS2 and send ANSI X12 832
documents with item/catalog information. Any time an
item is changed an update 832 must be sent to UCCNet."
Any 'gotchas' from people who have actually done an
implemention are welcome.
Thanks,
Peter
