RE: <JOBS>

From time to time, I have gotten my dander up over these ads. The reason is
that some of our bosses have threatened to forbid their EDI guys and gals to
be part of this list because of the ads. That is one reason we implemented
the <message identifier> system, so we could effectively filter out
"offensive" content. I think that paying and treating your staff well works
MUCH better than trying to cut them off from the world of recruiters, but
alas, I am preaching to the choir. BTW, my boss reads this list, and she
treats me well, and I'll just bet she is getting ready to announce a big,
fat, salary increase for me.
Now for the recruiters.
Most of you present yourselves professionally. But some of you make posts
that are a joke, and your results will follow suit.
If you want us to take you seriously, consider including the following:
Is this a contract or regular employment? If contract, what is the expected
term?
Where geographically is the assignment/job? (We are a world-wide list, give
us a break.)
What industry are we talking about? If you know anything about EDI, you
must realize that most of our work has nothing to do with coding, or even
mapping. Its mostly about integration, and the industry can tell us if we
are interested or qualified. On the other hand, if we are out of work,
never mind. We're interested.
Lastly, we want to know who you are. We want your name, and the name of
your company. We want to know if the job is with your company, or if you
are an agent. We want your address and phone number because we don't want
our resume going out over our boss' email system. If you don't give us your
name, we suspect you are not really a pro, and you probably won't get a very
good response. If your company has a web site, give us the URL. That way
we can check you out.
Short version ... treat us with respect. We'll make you rich.
Thanks,
Art

I have one last comment then I will drop this topic. I think we are all
educated professionals and are able to weed out the few 'cattle calls'
ourselves.
Thank you to everyone for reading my comments.

It has always bothered me why some people are so insecure that a recruitment
post sends them into some sort of fit.
I think we should promote, support, and celebrate recruitment ads, but with
a caveat. I don't like seeing braindead cattle calls that demand impossible
qualifications for unstated pay. If you want the best, realize that you
have to pay the best to acquire and retain such talent.
I'll get off my soapbox before I start a flame war.

I have never understood chasing away anyone that is looking to hire talented
staff. In my humble opinion we should covet anyone looking to offer
employment.

If it really bothers people that someone is posting the EDI Want-Ads
on the EDI-L list, then filter the keyword "<JOBS>" from your email
and redirect it instantly to the trash can.
How much simpler can you get thean that?
For some people, it may be the difference between a paycheck next
month and not eating, or worse yet trying to tell their families
dinner is cancelled next week......
Just my opinion.........
