Jim,
If you are referring to the HIPAA privacy requirements there is nothing
in the regulations that would forbid an ASP model if reasonable
safeguards were taken to protect data. There have been many discussions
about going offshore with healthcare data but the government (CMS) has
not explicitly ruled against it.

I'm seeking a solution available in the USA. Government mandated
privacy
requirements would probably preclude a hosted solution. I would not
expect any
physical scanning of faxes as the fax arrives in electronic format. I'm

assuming any OCR software would convert the fax directly once it is
converted
to TIFF format. Currently, I believe the client has a fax server that
routes
the faxes as email attachments. I'll know more tomorrow after I
interview the
fax order system owner.
