Subject: RE: [EDI-L] FAX-to-Order Software?
William,

Our firm has toyed repeatedly with the idea of fax-to-app or fax-to-edi
solution. We have also implemented a web front-end for our existing
distributors. What we have found is that several distributors are reticent
to double-key the order, once in their own computer system, and again into
our web ordering system. They still want to enter it once, print it out,
then fax it to us. That saves them entering it twice. It switches the
responsibility and cost of order entry to us. Since "The customer is always
right", we are still looking for a way to reduce the cost and improve the
reliability of entering POs that have been faxed to us. Unfortunately, I
haven't yet found a solution that is as smart, accurate or fast as my
customer service reps at figuring out how to get the information off a piece
of paper (or virtual image) and on to my database.

Jim, have you considered using a web-based interface, instead? It seems
to me as though a fax-to-order solution would cater to those who aren't
EDI capable; however, almost all companies do have an Internet connection
and would be able to submit orders via the web. Are there requirements
that a web interface won't satisfy, or is it indeed a viable solution?
