Singh, you can use your own ISA and GS-level ID information; however, you
will need to use an ID that you, your partner, and both VANs (the VAN for
you and the VAN for your partner) all agree upon. The ID information in
the ISA enveloping segment is what VANs use to send the data where it
needs to go. If you randomly change IDs without everybody knowing about
it, chances are the VANs won't know how to route the data correctly. The
ISA-level information tells the VANS who should receive the EDI data.
Allen explained how you can get the ISA ID qualifier codes from the X12
manual, and as far as how to get the ID information, well, that depends on
if you use a translator, what kind of translator, format of the data, and
more. However, if you can see the interchange, you can get the IDs one
way or another, whether using Perl or a full-blown translator package. ;)
Hope this helps.
