Art,
My (twelve year old) son constantly appalls me by sending e-mails written in
"IMspeak" (where IM is, of course, Instant Messaging), so I guess I hardly
noticed "ur". Maybe u'r just not desensitized enough ;-)

Okay, now we all know that a CV is found on a desk rather than an
undercarriage. But what the heck is "ur" (as in "Rush ur cv's")? I read
that Ur was the ancestral home of Abraham (nee Abram), whom Jews, Moslems
and Christians regard as patriarch. It was sometimes rendered "Ur of the
Chaldeas." But what does that have to do with a resumé or Curriculum Vitae
or constant velocity joints?

I knew this term because my dad was a college professor, and CV is used
rather than resume in academia (and from the post that solicited this,
perhaps also outside the US). The preferred spelling is curriculum vitae
from http://www.jobstar.org/tools/resume/res-cv.cfm
<http://www.jobstar.org/tools/resume/res-cv.cfm>
"Curriculum Vitae
Definition:
A detailed, lengthy and structured listing of education, publications,
projects, awards and work history. A curriculum vitae for a mid-career
candidate may be as long as twenty pages.
Employer Rating:
Rather than a resume, a curriculum vitae (often called a "C.V." or "Vita")
is required for certain positions: educators and scientists most commonly.
Works Best For:
Job seekers with extensive academic and professional credentials applying
for positions in education or research. Check with an advisor or others in
your field if you are unsure whether a C.V. or a resume is expected. "
from Dictionary.com
curriculum vi·tae ( P ) Pronunciation Key (vt, vt, wt)
n. pl. curricula vitae Abbr. CV
A summary of one's education, professional history, and job qualifications,
as
for a prospective employer.
(I don't know if you'll get all the special characters)
