I struggled with the problem you are describing with EDI/Open software and
Advantis VAN. Harbinger/Peregrine/Innovis could not or would not support
EDI/Open, and Advantis played the blame game. Most of my trading partners
were sophisticated enough to recognize a duplicate ISA control number, but
one in particular was not, which resulted in duplicate shipments to our
customers.

Bad bad bad.

The problem seemed to be when the VAN dropped the line without completely
transmitting the completion message. The script failed to recognize the
completion, and logged it as an error. If Innovis will support their
scripting, maybe they could help you tweak it to work more reliably. If, on
the other hand, you are really not completing the transmission, you'll have
to consider another approach.

What I did was throw out the Harbinger/Peregrine/Innovis crowd, as well as
IBM/Advantis, and replaced them with Softshare software and VAN. Now I
don't have that problem any more. Which is not to say I don't have
problems, but at least these are more manageable.

You might try connecting with QRS some way other than dial-up. Do you have
a full-time internet connection available? If so, they ought to allow FTP,
SMTP or AS2 connections. These may prove more reliable.

Good luck,

I just found this forum and the information is terrific. Thanks for
all of the valuable knowledge.
My company uses Inovis version 2 on the way to version 5. QRS is our
VAN. We use a dialup connection and have a substantial amount of
dropped communication sessions. The problem with the drops is
sometimes they become duplicate sends. Our software thinks that
nothing made it to the van, while the van does receive some
transactions. When the next communication resumes it resends the
already sent documents along with any new documents on the original
control number. YIKES! Our systems guy and myself have had many
calls with QRS,IBM, and Inovis. We have traced the line, sent the
reports and still no resolution..With a highvolume fourth quarter on
the horizon, I am a little nervous....
I have two questions...
1. Has anyone else had this problem and how did they correct it?
2. Does anyone have Inovis and communicate with QRS via FTP? Is
there additional hardware/software necessary for this type of
communication?
Any information that anyone has would be very helpful.
Thanks so much.
