Wal-Mart has mandated that all partners must maintain a mailbox at either
IBM or Sterling as a backup to EDIINT.

How is eveyone handling the issue of DR for the PC that's running EDIINT.
Are you using mirrored drives?

This thread got me to thinking: perhaps one advantage of direct
point-to-point EDIINT software is that you don't have to worry about the
availability of a particular intermediary like a VAN. Since you only
have to ensure the redundancy of your own internet connection - which in
a pinch can be replaced by any other commodity internet connection
(including dial-up!) - isn't that enough to guarantee connections in
case of a disaster?

But like most times I get to thinking, I get myself all wound up in
knots. Wouldn't you have had to notify all your trading partners,
somehow, of your alternate IP address - ahead of time? How's that done?
Do EDIINT software packages provide for alternate IP addresses within
trading partner directories?

What do folks do for disaster-proofing their EDIINT availability?
Surely, they don't fall-back on a VAN. Or do they?!!

Hi All --

This summer we performed an EDI vendor evaluation, and one of our
questions was disaster recovery.

Inovis' main data center operations are out of St. Louis, MO (managed by
IBM), and a mirror disaster recovery is located in Frankfurt.

Sterling Commerce also has mirror DR operations, but I cannot find the
details.

The 3rd vendor (I will not mention the name) performed backups and
stored them onsite with the main data operations. Needless to say, they
are located along the Hayward fault.

So, it is a good question to ask. The biggies have DR, but smaller
providers might not.
