Re: Disaster Recovery

Hello,
for EDIINT the most easiest way to notify your trading partners about a change
in IP Address is to use the DNS. Which means you tell your partners the
hostname, and make sure that the DNS is up to date. Since DNS supports
replication and backup servers you can be sure, that your DNS will be available,
even if your main production site is down. Of course this will require to host
more than one server, or run backup DNS Servers on your providers Colocation
facility or use their shared service.

This thread got me to thinking: perhaps one advantage of direct
point-to-point EDIINT software is that you don't have to worry about the
availability of a particular intermediary like a VAN. Since you only
have to ensure the redundancy of your own internet connection - which in
a pinch can be replaced by any other commodity internet connection
(including dial-up!) - isn't that enough to guarantee connections in
case of a disaster?
But like most times I get to thinking, I get myself all wound up in
knots. Wouldn't you have had to notify all your trading partners,
somehow, of your alternate IP address - ahead of time? How's that done?
Do EDIINT software packages provide for alternate IP addresses within
trading partner directories?
What do folks do for disaster-proofing their EDIINT availability?
Surely, they don't fall-back on a VAN. Or do they?!!
