RE: syntax token

Are you using Gentran? Application Integrator Mapper?
If so then:
Syntax tokens are used in maps to help translation for characters within a
file (EDI or flat file) that are out of the norm in the alphabet and or
punctuation characters. Example would be European characters or
symbols/signs such as { [ : ; " ' < @#$%. A syntax token can be defined as
any character A to Z. When you setup a syntax token you define/name the
token, lets call it "X". Under this token you will put a set of characters
that are allowable characters such as the signs I mentioned. If you wanted
your map/translator to accept the @ sign then your start character under
token "X" would be @ and your end character would also be @. So if you
receive an EDI file and or are translating a flat file and the data
contained an @ symbol the translator would accept it. Don't forget to set
the data type in the field in your map to an "X" so the translator will use
the syntax tokens you have defined.
Hope this helps you out!

Subject: [EDI-L] syntax token
Can anyone explain the meaning for the "C", "X", "A" in the syntax token?
