RE: <TECH>equivalent segments

Leah, I echo your recommendation for WJ to subscribe to the WEDI SNIP
transaction list serve as well.
On the other hand, I depart a bit from your suggestion that WJ follow the
segment sequence exactly for recurring segments at equivalent levels in the
same loop. In loops where a given segment can occur several times and all
such segments are at the same equivalent level, as in the AMT example, such
recurring segments can appear in any sequence. It is up to the receiving EDI
system to interrogate the appropriate code in the correct data element in
each recurring AMT segment to determine what specific information is being
conveyed.

WJ,
HIPAA lays out a very specific order and use of segments within the looping
structure of the document. In "generic" X12, a segment can be used in any
loop where it is allowed, for any purpose it can carry. However, HIPAA
guidelines have narrowed this usage. You should follow the guidelines
exactly. Also, I'd suggest posting to the wedi-snip listserv
http://www.wedi.org/, they are a group of people working on HIPAA documents
and have a lot of experience, they should be able to help you better.
Good Luck,
Leah

Subject: [EDI-L] <TECH>equivalent segments
Hi, all,
I have a question regarding the HIPAA 837 (may apply to other HIPAA
documents too). Is it true that the following segments can appear
in any sequence since they have the same segment id:
AMT - approved amount
AMT - covered amount
AMT - ...
:
:
and
REF - Line item control number
REF - repriced line item ref number
REF - ...
:
:
Is it ture that if segments with same segment id appears
in sequence in the spec, they can appear in any sequence in
the data file ?
Thanks in advance.
