Re: EDI and electronic claims processing in healthcare

Presumably you know about Healthcode and their Veda system in the UK?
They seem to have re-invented the wheel and do their own thing
completely. This seems to be the only healthcare electronic claims
processing in the UK.
I don't know about any other European countries.
The problem of course is that each country market is small compared to
the USA. Not only does each country have its own language and
differently organised healthcare but being wedded to the welfare state,
private healthcare (i.e. billed healthcare claims) is a much smaller
proportion of the whole. In France I know that the patient has to pay a
small proportion of the cost of state provided healthcare but I don't
know how this is achieved. The standardisation and economies of scale
needed for a complex billing process are much more difficult to achieve
in Europe than the US.
You may want to continue this discussion with me off-list. We supply
software for electronic healthcare claims in the UK and the USA, see
www.midexpro.com.
