An interesting suggestion, but your choice of "twisted" is a bit twisted
itself ;^) Most of the industry-wide implementation guides I've seen use
subsets of X12 groups/segments/elements/code values that are fully
compliant with the original semantic purposes, so could hardly be called
twisted. I've only seen a few where people have tried to put square pegs
into round holes because they didn't want to take the trouble to modify the
base X12 standard to satisfy their business needs. I do know of one
example, but because I don't have a copy of their IG any more the guilty
shall remain safely nameless. Keeping the guilty nameless is probably a
good idea anyway. Who wants to tell WalMart that they're using X12 "wrong"?
