RE: simple explanation

Brian,
Your request SHOULD NOT start a firestorm. You might get a blitz of sales
blurbs and such, though.
I'm not a recruiting professional. I would HOPE that a position could be
found for you based on your EDI experience and your facility with VB. I do
believe some people put too much value on experience with the product they
are currently using when hiring EDI people.
Computers I know. Resumes and CVs I don't. I have a Resume, but it is
lousy and doesn't sell the real me. My advice Brian is to get a real good
resume and find a recruiting professional that will work with you to find a
position where you can OJT with the employer's current software.
With consolidations, buyouts, and such, one never knows how long their pet
translator will be around. I've been dumped once by a software company
(Unisys) that dropped their translator with little warning. You have to be
able to adapt and overcome.

Hi, I hate to start a firestorm but I just want to learn. I have been
working with EDI close to 4 years using the old TSI Trading Partner
program which is now owned by Emanio, and then using custom VB
programs to do all the processing. I've been reading this list for a
good while with everybody talking about Gentran, SAP, Cleo, AS2,
Harbinger, and other type stuff, but I have no clue about any of it.
The company I work for is closing, so I'm pretty much screwed in this
field if I can't learn something pretty quick. Mainly I just need a
simple description of these things and if they can be learned on a
windows based machine. Also, can you somehow run or emulate unix if
you don't have a unix box? Or the same with AS400?
Thanks, Brian
