Sorry about posting to both these lists, but...

As promised in EDI-L yesterday, I have joined group "mercator_edi' to 'check it
out' pending some kind of better forum. (By the
way, one EDI-L member knew whom to contact at Ascential, took the time to write
him, and kindly copied me on his correspondence to
that person).

So... this AM I thought I'd look at the history, set up options, etc....

Did a Yahoogroups 'search' on 'mercator' so I could bookmark the right page
page, and lo and behold I found all these groups..

mercator_edi
mercator_objects
mercator_users
mercatormappingtool
mercatorsoftware

.. and maybe a few more. (hard to tell from summaries, but darned if I was going
to 'join' them all just to take a look-see at
typical content).

Is it any wonder that participation is relatively low in any one group? Either
you 'join' five or more groups or get less than all
related topic content. While the Mercator mapper is a heck of a tool, I just do
not believe there is a sufficient user base to
support five or six separate peer support venues. (It's great for EDI work. I
just threw that in so the is some defensible
connection to list EDI-L).

I do not have a good 'solution' to this scattering of questions and answers (and
the associated 'spam' messages), but I would think
pending a better forum from a vendor, which in the best case will take some
time, I would appreciate hearing any ideas as to how the
issue of "consolidated internet/listeserve peer support" for the
Mercator/Ascential mapping tool can best be addressed.

EDI-L might not be best venue for comments, so maybe those suggestions should be
limited to mercator_edi. (?? or another group?)

Feel free to contact me directly... I would really like to see a good peer
support forum for this product and will put forth some
effort on it.
