Steve,

There are also warehouse replenishment issues that would be handled
differently as well as shelf life and stock out issues.

David,
I'm not really sure what your asking then. The physical
setup looks the same with one minor difference. Company A has one
warehouse and would send EDI to FEDEX to ship. Company B uses UPS
warehouse so the actual warehouse ship event would be an intra company
system messaging like MQseries (assuming UPS uses one system for
warehousing and another for shipping). The Company B scenario would
have a slight advantage for emergency shipment reliability in that intra
company messaging should be faster and more reliable than inter company
EDI.

Steve,

In the example I gave the issues are also time sensitive shipments
including
emergency shipments as well as using a more centralized warehouse. This
is
an example of a more niche situation.

David,
You are basically asking if a company should outsource their
warehouse or not. This would depend on the volume of goods and their
buying power.

Gary,

Here is a scenario to get your unbiased response. There are 2
healthcare
companies that have similar products that are used in surgical
procedures.

Company A distributes using FEDEX from the company A warehouse and
Company B
uses a UPS warehouse for distribution (true scenario). Can you explain
in
your unbiased opinion which is better from both a logistics and EDI
perspective? Thanks.
