Re: Re: What VAN is suitable for Harbinger Trustedlink?

All......
Here we go again. Each VAN has its good points and bad points. Some have
been in business since the days of TDCC, some opened up yesterday, and I am
sure that some will close tomorrow. Some offer 24x7 service, some only
during normal business hours. Some support all communications methods, some
only a very limited number. Some have multiple sites and redundant
networks, some don't. Some operate 24x7 and don't have weekly or monthly
downtime, some have downtime every week. And the list could go on and on.
What I am trying to say is the original request was for names of reliable
VANs. And to figure that out they probably need more information than just
the price is low. Can we stop with these arguments about whose price is the
highest or lowest, please. Your mileage may differ.
Now as for reliable VAN's you might want to check out (not in any particular
order):
Sterling
GXS
Advantis (IBM)
Inovis
Kleinschmidt
TranSettlements (Descartes)
They all have been in business for some time and have a track record and all
currently communicate with the software you mention.
Some of them are more reliable than others. Just like you can send your
document by FedEx overnight with 8:00 am delivery, signature required, or
you can send it via the US Postal Service as regular mail. I can almost,
with a great degree of certainty, guarantee that the FedEx shipment will
arrive at 8:00 am the next day. I can almost, with a similar degree of
certainty, guarantee that the US Postal shipment will arrive. Both are
reliable, but do I need to use FedEx for everything, depends on what the
documents are. If I am a motor carrier trying to meet Homeland Security
data requirements in order to get shipments across the border, you bet I
need a VAN with 24x7 operations, no downtime over the weekends, redundant
communications, multiple sites, real-time processing, etc. If I need to
send something not as time sensitive, I can do with less. Doing with less,
generally costs less.
Just my 2 cents.
Dwight
