RE: GISB EDM Version 1.4

This message is in response to Ron's comment "it sounds very similar to AS2
but was told it is not AS2 even though it is HTTP and requires the same push
mechanism".
The GISB EDM standard was initially developed by the Gas Industry Standards
Board (now known as NAESB http://www.naesb.org) in 1996 to provide secure
Internet transport of EDI (X12) data. In May 1999 the IETF EDIINT workgroup
and the GISB subcommittee responsible for GISB EDM agreed to converge their
efforts to avoid competing standards and create a single HTTP based standard
under the IETF AS2 initiative. The converged AS2 effort continued until
2003, up through AS2-draft-11. The current spec, AS2-draft-14, has removed
all references to GISB EDM.
In summary, Ron's observation is accurate, the two competing HTTP based
standards (AS2 and GISB EDM) are "very similar". There are a few differences
between the two standards but the most significant difference lies in the
Encryption standards "supported" by each:
* AS2-draft-11 (the converged GISB EDM/AS2 spec) supported both PGP and
S/MIME;
* GISB EDM only supports PGP;
* AS2-draft-14 only supports S/MIME
FYI - if you're interested in seeing an example HTML form implementing the
"converged AS2-draft-11 standard" go to:

Subject: [EDI-L] GISB EDM Version 1.4
Is anyone familiar with GISB EDM Version 1.4?
Our client has a requirement from the NY State public Service commission to
transmit EDI data using this protocol. From what I understand, it sounds
very similar to AS2 but was told it is not AS2 even though it is HTTP and
requires the same push mechanism with a secure server connected to the
internet 24/7. Can anyone suggest software to handle this on windows
platform?
