If you are taking that route you might also like to include an option to
pad out to block size at interchange end rather than just terminating or
carrying on with the next interchange. I have encountered client systems
which required one or the other.
<smug> We do not need such a utility since our converters have these
sort of output format options as standard </smug> <rueful> ... but they
are seldom used nowadays. </rueful>
I append the section of converter documentation which describes the
output options we provide to vary from pure stream.

- BLCK - Set =nnnn where nnnn is a decimal number which indicates how
many characters are written to the interchange file before a newline
sequence is inserted. Default is BLCK=0 which disables blocking of
interchanges.
- IEND - Set if a newline sequence is to be generated in the
interchange file after every complete interchange..
- IPAD - Set if padding blanks are to be added after a complete
interchange to fill up to a block boundary. Only meaningful if BLCK is
set to a non-zero value.
Nowadays the previous 3 options are almost never used.
- SEGB - Set if a newline sequence is to be written to the interchange
file after every complete segment. Useful for demonstration purposes and
when developing a table.
- CRLF - Set =nnn if a newline sequence other than the DOS CR/LF is
required . If nnn=0 then the DOS default is used. UNIX systems which use
only newline will typically have CRLF=10.
