RE: Re: <OFF-TOPIC>Globalization with Justice

My .02 .....
We are currently working on the Sarbanes-Oxley, shoring up all possible
security breaches within our systems.... In looking at, under this
legislation, what is at stake here and the criminal sanctions that can
occur with responsibility for security breaches, it is my opinion that
more and more companies will make the decision NOT to outsource, because
this legislation is NOT enforceable off-shore, so.. it may take a few
years, but maybe the tide is turning. Since CEO's will be held
personally accountable for the accuracy of the data, as well as for the
protection of personal information on their systems, maybe it will be
worth it to them to hire programming staff that is also governed by the
laws of the USA, and who are controllable within an organization...
Course, like Dennis Miller, this is my opinion, and I could be wrong...
but we can dream, can't we?

Mr. S Vengat:
I am afraid that you are not going to persuade any "Western" who
has lost their job to a cheaper "Eastern" resource of a "win-win"
situation.
When one can no longer provide for their family, their reaction is
immediate and visceral and takes one of two forms. Denial - "This is a big
mistake because I am better in the long run" or, "We need regulatory
relief. How can the government stop this." Neither of these responses
will be effective because the first one is plain wrong and the second
one is a short-term band-aid.
One of the really exacerbating factors is the notion that these jobs being
lost are not the familiar blue-collar ones but the so-called knowledge
worker ones that are supposed to be so in demand. No longer is global
sourcing limited to manufacturing. We have been through the textile wars
and the auto wars and the only war that the West has won - if you define
winning by keeping jobs in-house - is the agricultural one.
Yes, Western man is outraged by simplistic EDI questions whose answer will
only seemingly accelerate this trend, however, this outrage is just the
normal
first reaction.
If we were all utopian and considered ourselves citizens of the world, we
would perhaps
have a more favourable disposition. You are, however, hitting us in the
wallet and you need
to be sensitive to that fact regarding your comportment on this list.

Hi Stephenie,
Yours was the voice this forum was missing. Thank you.
Just a small note: I do not believe outsourcing was the
root cause of incredible number of lay-offs & jobs lost
in the last few years. It was just a side effect of the steps
corporations were taking in order to survive and stay competitive
in this still-recovering economy. 'Outsourcing' need not be a
zero-sum game, in the long turn it could be a win-win
situation for most (if not all) parties.
At the same time, we need to look at what could and should
be done to take care of people who are affected adversely
(in the short term, hopefully). One thing everyone can do
is to help themselves by keeping pace with current trends and
technologies. Without that not many can survive, outsourcing
does not matter much.
It is easy to blame outsourcing or what/whoever is an
easy/popular target. It comes naturally when we are
frustrated though.
I am not an economist or expert on the subject. I am
open to share opinions from experts and people like myself.
Thanks and regards,
S Vengat
