Yajun,

The largest problem for the longest time for a service
bureau is trying to be everything to everyone. The
products I've seen that use OCR technology will never
get you 100% of the data. furthermore the wide
distribution of business rules and customer specific
information negates the advantage of using this
technology for the service Bureau.

With this said, the SB tries do try and normalize
their ADF files as much as possible to manage the
different maps and business rules the trading partners
require. This enables some automation and less data
entry but at least 15% of the customer base can not be
automated and result in data entry.

The service bureau customer has specific business
rules, product line, shipping methods, and trading
partner requirement's to say the least. Throw in a non
paperless environment and increase cost of doing
business, adds to the complexity and frustration.

A large trading partner who are EDI enabled will have
a much easier timer to manage their customer base than
a service bureau who needs to manage both sides of the
relationship.
