RE: Frequent Requests for Routine Mapping Help

Robert,
I would agree to you except for one thing.
I think it is easier for you to have that view because you have a job.
A lot of us are looking at this from the prospective that we lost our job to
outsourcing.

Jim Drewniak

Subject: [EDI-L] Frequent Requests for Routine Mapping Help
Bonjour,
I'm not interested in politics & I hate politics but I though that the
main
goal of this group was to help each other regarding EDI questions/issues.
If a guy is new on EDI & asking basic questions, well so be it & be kind
enough to answer it. One day one of us might ask a trivial question even
after many years of experience in EC because it's a section of EC that you
have not explored. That day, you will appreciate to get an answer.... I
don't think that any of us should decide if we should or should not help
someone out of your own country of origin. This problematics is not for
EDI/EC guys but for politicians & company managers.
We should stick to EDI/EC issues only. There are certainly other forums
regarding outsourcing & related issues.
This is my personal opinion.
Thanks & have all a great weekend,
Robert Richer

I agree!!!!!!!! I'm sick of seeing posts on this list with questions like
"I'm new to Gentran can someone please let me know how to create a new
map
or come to India to teach" :-) This list is starting to become a
hangout
for so called "experts" to ask the most basic questions.

Aren't you missing the point, being that some on the list here, do not
want to help out some foreign outsourcer? Something akin to training
the guy to take your job. They probably took the contract putting
themselves forth as having experienced EDI consultants/employees, and
end up asking this list or others for the most basic of help when they
get their software installed. I for one, don't want to enable an
outsourcer to do that. Let them struggle and hopefully fail, and some
company will learn a lesson the hard way. You don't pinch pennies and
throw away dollars.

There is a big difference between someone who asks for help, and
pitches in
themselves when they're able -- and someone who simply asks questions
and
performs a thinly-veiled knowledge transfer.
We've seen both kinds of people here, and I think that most of the
people
here can tell one kind of person from another. I would hope, anyway.
I
hope *I* can tell the difference.
Not to get into the metaphysical, but I think all the subscribers can
examine their own conscience and discover for themselves what kind of
person
they are trying to be here.
