Re: SAP IDOC XML Schemas...

Most of the powerful mapping tools (such as Mercator) will go from one flat file
format to another. They usually do come with a price tag though. Seeing your
familiarity with XML, I'm going to recommend you check out xmlLinguist at
http://www.sysonyx.com/products/xmllinguist. It's a tool that's designed to
translate structured *text* documents (both flatfiles and EDI documents, let's
not go there again ;-)) into XML and visa-versa. It's quite affordable, the
mapper GUI at $79.95 and the runtime automation engine free.
It doesn't do everything you're asking, that being have built in maps for SAP
documents, but if you know the structure, or have documentation for it, it's
very simple to create an xmlLinguist map. Either way, even if you had an XML
Schema for the document, you'd still have a lot of work to get it into XML as an
XML Schema by default doesn't map out a flatfile, only an XML document. I'm not
sure how the SOM works for this, but my guess is unless the schema was
"optimized" for SOM, you'd still have to do a lot of ground work.

Subject: [EDI-L] SAP IDOC XML Schemas...
Hi,
Am currently analyzing a requirement to develop a tool that would
convert SAP IDOC parser format files to my EDI product specific
sequence/structures.
Am aware that SAP has documented the structure of its IDOCs as a
flat file called - parser definition files.
If the parser definition file is available as XML schemas instead,
I can use the Microsoft XML Parser's SOM (Schema Object Model)
convenietly to parse the IDOC definitions.
Since XML is adopted everywhere nowadays, I wanted to know if
1. There are XML Schemas (xsd's)available for all the SAP IDOC parser
definitions(across all versions) ?
2. If so, since SAP provides basic IDOCs and allows for extended IDOC
(customized one I guess), does SAP provide a way for creating XML
schemas for the extended IDOCs too ?
Any replies/pointers towards these questions would be of good help to me.
Regards,
Venkat
