Re: Article regarding Covisint purchase

For those of you who haven't followed the automotive portal companies
like Covisint, their problems began when their doors opened. Those
problems had nothing to do with XML or the dotcom bust. Automotive
suppliers never believed that their competitive pricing information
would be secure. If a supplier provided a part to Ford and GM but
charged GM a higher price, suppliers were afraid that GM would get
access to the lower pricing information sent to Ford and demand the
lower price potentially putting the supplier out of business.
Covisint and others failed to convince suppliers otherwise and
invested significant capital in providing a secure system. The
verdict is still out on the few portal survivors left. These issues
are well documented in the Wall Street Journal, Information Week and
other major trade journals for those interested in doing the
research.
